The Bield - Grasmere
Grasmere is at the centre of the English Lake District, in the North West of England, close to the Scottish border. It is easy to travel to The Bield by road or rail. The nearest station is at Windermere where taxis and buses are available. You can take the 555/556 bus and in the summer the 599 open top bus. The journey to Grasmere takes about 20 minutes by car and 30 minutes by bus.
If you are travelling by car from the south of England you leave the M6 motorway at junction 36 and take the A591 round Kendal, passing Windermere and Ambleside and onto Grasmere. You stay on the A591, you do NOT turn for Grasmere Village. After about 250metres you will see our sign on the right. We are a short way up the drive to the National Trust Offices, off the road in a quite localtion with our own car parking spaces. Travelling from the north of England you exit the M6 at junction 40 and follow the A66 to Thelkeld where turn left onto the B5322. (Signed for Windermere (A591)). After about 2.5 miles you join the A591, turning left for Thirlmere and then Grasmere. Again you do NOT turn for the village, and will find The Bield on your left, shortly after passing The Swan, and the catholic church, Our Lady of the Wayside.
